Bryan Reynolds landing spots: Padres, Phillies, Mariners among best trade dea atlanta braves jersey 3t dline fits for Pirates star

July 29, 2022 By David Suggs 0

This time last year, Bryan Reynolds was in the midst of a career year with the Pirates. Now, it looks like he's on the precipice of being dealt.

Reynolds was one of the game's best center fielders in 2021, slashing .302/.390/.522 en route to an 11th-place finish in NL MVP voting. And although the 27-year-old hasn't quite been able to recreate his success from last season, he remains a valuable player who would be of use to a playoff contender.

With a .911 OPS since the start of July, Reynolds has been raking. However, a playoff appearance seems unlikely for the Pirates, who sit at 40-58. A player of Reynolds' caliber certainly has the talent to play in October.

There are some extenuating factors to Reynolds' availability. He inked a two-year extension with the Bucs in April. That makes Reynolds more than just a rental, meaning Pittsburgh will be looking for more assets for its star player.

So, which teams would suit Reynolds best? The Sporting News examines four teams rumored to be interested in the Baltimore native.

San Tommy Bahama Diego Padres

The Friars are currently entrenched in the race for Juan Soto. However, that doesn't mean they're taking their eyes off Reynolds.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that the Padres and Pirates had communicated over a potential deal involving Reynolds and young San Diego pitchers Chris Paddack and Ryan Weathers back in March.

Wil Myers and Eric Hosmer are on gaudy contracts that they're unlikely to ever make up for in terms of production. Meanwhile, Trent Grisham is an awesome defensive player, but he's hitting .188 this season. Improvements could be made, especially if San Diego wants to lock up a playoff spot.

Paddack isn't with the P eddie rosario atlanta braves jersey adres anymore — he was dealt in an April move that brought Taylor Rodgers and Brent Rooker from Minnesota to San Dieg atlanta baseball jersey o — but Weathers still is. Maybe the Friars could dangle him as a piece to grab an upgrade in the outfield.

Philadelphia Phillies

Bryce Harper's injury stunted Philly's chances of grabbing a divisional crown. Still, at 51-47, aBuster Posey playoff spot is more than in reach. Kyle Schwarber is hitting home runs like they're going out of style, Rhys Hoskins has picked up some of the slack in the lineup and Phil atlanta braves jersey 2022 adelphia's rotation has beenCarlos Rodon Giants Jerseys strong.

There are some holes, to be clear. The fielding in the outfield is less than ideal, especially with Schwarber and Nick Castellanos serving as starting corner outfielders.

Reynolds isn't quite a defensive savant. But he's a consistent presence in the lineup. And he's not quite the sieve Castellanos (-15.4 fielding runs above average) or Schwarber (-6.9 fieldi Kris Bryant Rockies Jerseysng runs above average) are — although at -6.6 fielding runs atlanta braves replica jersey above average, Reynolds isn't much better than them.

More importantly, in the scenario that Harper comes back, Reynolds can help ease the load as he gets back up to speed.

Miami Marlins

Look, another NL East team! After Jazz Chisholm went down with a stress fracture in his back, it seemed the Marlins were content with selling their assets. The New York Post's Jon Heyman said Miami was listening to offers for every player "not named men atlanta braves jersey Sandy Alcantara," while Jim Bowden of CBS had the Marlins pegged as clear sellers at this year's trade deadline.

Yet, Bowden also reported that the Marlins were one of the teams still interested in Reynolds' services. Zooming out, the move does make a bit of sense from the Marlins' perspective.

Miami has some pieces in its lineup, namely Chisholm. The lineup is lacking in consistency, though; of the players who have at least 200 plate appearances for the Marlins this season, only Chisholm, Garrett Cooper, Jon Berti and Brian Anderson are above league average hitters (based on OPS+).

With Alcantara,MLB Camo Apparel Pablo Lopez (who may be moved) and Trevor Rodgers (who is having a poor season but still has gobs of potential), Miami has a formidable rotation at its best. Reynolds could add some much-needed firepower to the offense. More importantly, he has another year on his contract, meaning the Marlins could run it back in 2023 and part ways with Reynolds at next year's deadline if they're struggling.

Seattle Mariners

Here comes the wild card…literally. A year after missing out on the playoffs by one game, Seattle is in prime position to nab its first postseason appearance since 2001.

The M's are coming off the heels of a 14-game winning streak, have a budding superstar in Julio Rodriguez and are just generally a good team playing an exciting brand of baseball. Why not add to that?

Reynolds could help Seattle in the present and the future. The M's have a roster filled to the brim with mid-20's talent. Reynolds fits the description perfectly and could bring just the type of bat Seattle might need to lock itself into a playoff spot in 2022…and beyond.
