It's not as if Martinez's objections came out of left field, so to speak.
According to Umpire Scorecards, Eddings had a called strike accuracy of 64 percent. That's 24 percent worse than the league average.

Managers and coaches rarely get the lengthy suspension Martinez received, particularly with the video of him showing very little with Eddings (although part of the altercation was obscured), but the MLB Umpires Union has a somewhat unusual hold on the league.
MLB has treated contact with umpires very seriously since the union dramatically bemoaned a one-game suspension for Manny Machado in 2019, and contact has always resulted in a suspension. In a Facebook post after Machado's suspension, the union wrote in part:
Manny Machado was suspended one game for contact to an umpire during an argument over balls and strikes, while violently throwing his bat against the backstop, with absolutely no regard to anyone’s safety.
