Joyce had transferred to Tennessee from Walters State after the 2020 season ended, but with the injury in the fall, he missed the entire spring season with the Volunteers in 2021. He took a redshirt for the year as he began to work his way back from the injury.

It wasn't until Feb. 20, 2022, that Joyce would make his Tennessee debut, pitching a third of an inning against Georgia Southern. He recorded the out.

MLB Pipeline lists him as the No. 116 draft prospect in the 2022 class and Baseball America has him listed at No. 131.

MLB Pipeline and Baseball America both give his fastball an 80 grade on the 20-to-80 scouting scale. MLB Pipeline praised the swing-and-miss ability of his slider, though said he needs to harness it better. It gave him 50 grades for both the slider and changeup, but a 45 grade on his control.

Baseball America also said he needs to improve his control and that he has a heavy reliance on his fastball.
