White Sox closer Liam Hendriks spoke out about gun violence Monday in the wake of a mass shooting at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Ill., a Chicago suburb, that left six dead and dozens more injured.

Hendriks said before the White Sox's game vs. the Twins at Chicago's Guarant atlanta braves jersey button up eed Rate Field that mass shootings in the United States are "becoming all too commonplace" and not enough is being done to curb gun violence in the country.

"Something needs to be done," he told reporters. "Something needs to happen because there's way too many people losing their lives."

"Things need to get done or else, I mean, it's getting to the point where civilization as you know it may be ending," he said. "Just due to the fact that there's two drastically different sides (on guns and the Second Amendment).

"Something needs to change. Something needs to happen, and it needs to happen quick."
