Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson says he now has a "mutual understanding" with White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson after calling him "Jackie" during a game.

On Thursday, MLB.com's Mark Feinsand shared a statement from Donaldson, where he said he has "the utmost respect for what Tim Anderson brings to the game of baseball" and that what he said was a "misunderstanding based on multiple exchanges between us over atlanta braves dansby swanson jersey the years." Following a game last week in which benches cleared between the White Sox and Yankees, Anderson said Donaldson called him "Jackie" twice during the game. White Sox manager Tony LaRussa called it a "racist" comment.

"I told him, we never have to talk again. I won't speak to you, you won't speak to me, if that's how you're going to refer to me," Anderson said, according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers. "I knew he knew exactly what he was doing because I already told him."

For his comments, Donaldson was issued a fine and suspended a game by MLB. He is appealing the suspension.
