The top of the Mets' rotation is facing disruption less than a week before the team's season opener.

Ace starter Jacob deGrom will stop throwing for up to four weeks after an MRI revealed that he had a stress reaction in his scapula that caused inflammation in his shoulder, the team announced.

DeGrom missed his scheduled Spring Training start against the Cardinals on Friday.

DeGrom, 33, last pitched in an MLB game on July 7. He missed the second half of last season because of forearm tightness. Before that, he pitched through a series of health issues in 2021:

With deGrom out for most of April, the Mets could turn to Tylor Megill or David Peterson, who could begin the season in the Mets' bullpen or in the rotation at Triple-A Syracuse.

Megill, 26, experienced ups and downs with the Mets as a rookie in 2021. He posted a 2.04 ERA over his first seven starts but a 6.13 ERA mark in his final 11 starts. Overall, he was at 4.52 (4.69 FIP). On the plus side, he averaged 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings and posted a 3.67 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Peterson, 26, is coming off a rough second season with New York. He posted a 5.54 ERA in 15 games before going on the injured list in July with an oblique strain. While he was on the IL, he broke his foot walking through the clubhouse. That injury ended his season.
