Druw Jones, the No. 2 overall pick of the 2022 MLB Draft by the Diamondbacks, has injured his shoulder, the team said.

The Athletic was first to report the news.

Per the club, Jones injured his shoulder in his first batting practice with the team. The Diamondbacks did not specify the extent of his injury, but as noted by ESPN, it could be season-ending if it requires surgery.

Jones signed with the Diamondbacks for a $8.19 million bonus and was introduced at Chase Field over the weekend. Jones is the son of former Braves standout Andruw Jones, who was a five-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove winner.

Druw Jones will undergo further testing before the team makes a decision on how to proceed.

Jones was regarded as a five-tool player throughout the scouting process. That is why several outlets — The Sporting News included — rated the 6-4, 180-pound atlanta braves jersey xl nike outfielder as one of the top prospects available in the 2022 MLB Draft.

Jones put up high-volume numbers to match his scouting report at Georgia baseball power Wesleyan High School (Peachtree Corners, Ga.). He hit .570 and had an OPS of 1.702. He hit 13 home runs and scored 72 runs. He also went 10-1 on the mound.

As one scout told TSN's Bill Trocchi, Jones' ability closely matches his father's — that makes the Joneses potentially better than nearly any other father-son duo in MLB history.
