Gwinnett’s woes against Durham continued as they lost their fourth straight game to close out the series. Neither side put out much in the early frames as both starters remained in control and the bullpens continued their good work into the middle frames. After half of a scoreless game the Stripers struck first to take a lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Mississippi’s offense ended their season by going scoreless over the final five innings, their biggest opportunity outside of the third inning coming when Drew Lugbauer doubled to lead off the fifth inning. Lugbauer advanced to third on a single from Andrew Moritz but was nabbed trying to score on a Javier Valdes fly out for an inning-ending 8 to 2 double play.

Hayden Deal was excellent in his start for Mississippi, giving them three scoreless innings on 44 pitches. Deal was in control of the game from the first pitch and allowed only one hit which came on an infield single to lead off the second inning. After his fabulous outing he made way for AJ Puckett who kept the good work rolling by going 1 23 scoreless innings. Justin Maese got the final out of the fifth inning but was not brought back out for the sixth inning when things started to get a little shakier for Mississippi. Jasseel De La Cruz did not have his best stuff in this outing. While he got an out on Yasiel Puig a hard line drive to lead off the inning a walk and a double followed and had him in early trouble. A ground ball up the middle the squeaked under the glove of Cody Milligan to let in the first two Biscuits runs. Lisandro Santos mirrored De La Cruz’s struggles in the seventh inning by allowing three walks and two runs before closing out the inning with a strikeout. Santos put his struggles behind him to strike out the final three batters he faced, then handed the ball to Jason Creasy who pitched the final 1 13 innings perfect to close out the Mississippi Braves’s season.
